Summer Fun in the Bay Area

Summer break presents some excellent opportunities for you and your children to experience the world. The Children’s Creativity Museum is a good place to start, but your whole summer could be filled with fun and discovery in the Bay Area. To help you pick some interesting activities, we have compiled a list of some of the more prominent types of summer fun.

Go To The Fair

Over the course of the summer, there will be a total of 8 different fairs to attend. Some will be near the Bay area, while others will entail a bit of a drive, but attending a fair is a great way to have some child-oriented fun. To sweeten the deal, most fairs include livestock, farming, and cooking exhibits from local craftspeople, and possibly some hands-on activities as well.

Visit Characters From Children’s Books

All summer long, characters from your children’s favorite storybooks will be holding meet and greets at the Bay Area Discovery Museum. The Berenstain Bears, Cat in the Hat, and others will make scheduled appearances throughout special days, so check the schedule and plan ahead for your next visit. The storybook character meetups are geared towards smaller children, but the museum has something to offer people of all ages.

Adventure Time At Discovery Kingdom

Discovery Kingdom is the Bay Area’s Six Flags theme park. As the name implies, wild animals and the glimpses into an undiscovered world are central to the layout, interspersed with the thrilling rides and exciting shows that have made the Six Flags brand a household name. Sure there is a lot for children to learn here, but there are also tons of fun things for the whole family to enjoy.

A Day At Monterey Bay

Monterey Bay is a short drive away from San Francisco, making it a perfect place for a day trip into excitement. Begin the day at the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, learning about everything which lives under the sea, then grab a quick bite for lunch and head over to Monterey’s unique El Estero Park Complex. Themed on Hank Ketcham’s iconic character, Dennis the Menace, the park features a huge children’s playground, paddle boat rentals, and much more. And the park is directly across the road from Monterey Bay itself, complete with a multi-use trail, beach area, and the region’s famous Eucalyptus trees.

The things listed here only scratch the surface of fun things to do with children all summer long. Keep in mind also that many museums offer free days to local residents, and every day is a good day to visit city, state, or national parks. Kids of all ages will enjoy the numerous things to do, and parents will appreciate that many of them are free or low cost, and affordable for the whole family.
